Students receive two-way transportation between the school and the care facility and their visits take place over the lunch hour. Students volunteer their lunch hours to attend supervised visits with seniors at area care centres on a regular basis through the school year.
Activities: games, crafts, reading, storytelling, talent shows, movies and the writing of the senior’s biography. This year, there are 191 student volunteers from seven different Junior High Schools.
Students typically visit after school hours and on the weekends and they are encouraged to provide true companionship for their senior. Students receive a higher level of training and our program staff provide ongoing information, support and advice as necessary.
