Intergenerational Day - June 1st, 2013

Over 1000 Calgarians from all generations joined LINKages to celebrate Calgary's second official Intergenerational Day at two main locations - the Genesis Centre and the East Village neighbourhood.

GENESIS CENTRE IG Celebration

LINKages and F.O.C.U.S. on Seniors hosted 800 enthusiastic participants at the Genesis Centre. LINKages youth volunteers worked with the Genesis IG Day Committee to help plan and facilitate the day, with the Calgary Public Library branch, YMCA, 1000 Words and other Genesis tenants offering intergenerational and intercultural-themed activities and events everyone could enjoy.

EAST VILLAGE - Wasn't that a party!

YACS students hosted a barbeque for 200 people in the park behind Murdoch Manor, complete with music, dancing, and planting flowers in the Murdoch Manor flower garden. Sandralin Del Rosario, Julianne Tan, Aiden Goheen and his friends, and a band called To No Avail played music for the crowd, and Ruben Williams, a senior from Murdoch Manor played the guitar and sang - his first public performance in 28 years!

YACS students made a beautiful 3 minute video of the day - watch it here! You can also read an article about the East Village IG Day in the newsletter, EvView.

50 YACS students have joined since Intergenerational Day, and they're planning more events for the coming year - including an East Village Rememberance Day ceremony, Nov. 11.

2012 Scotiabank Walk and Run

As another first for LINKages, our agency participated in the 2012 Scotiabank Charity Challenge – Walk and Run. On May 27th LINKages supporters, wearing bright yellow shirts, demonstrated their support by walking a distance of their choice (5K, 10K, ½ Marathon or Full) contributing their time, money and effort to our important cause. LINKages looks forward to this annual event each year. As spring nears, watch for more information about getting involved and joining team LINKages. Alternatively if you aren’t looking to walk or run, you can help make a difference in your community by sponsoring or making a pledge for a LINKages team member.
