About Linkages

LINKages Society of Alberta is a community-based registered charity that was originally founded as the Friends of Seniors Foundation in 1994. With an extensive amount of experience, LINKages is recognized for the successful implementation of programs that connect young people with seniors who reside in care facilities. LINKages has developed meaningful, outcomes-oriented programs, which are developed to build bridges between the generations, decrease negative attitudes and myths, promote greater understanding and respect for generations, and instill the personal benefits of volunteering.
Timeline | 1994/1995 | • 1 Junior High program serving 12 seniors. | | | • 24 student volunteers. | | | • 100% volunteer operated. | | | | | 1997/1998 | • 4 Junior High programs and 1 Senior High program serving 60 seniors. | | | • 120 student volunteers. | | | • 3 part-time staff. | | | • Friends of Seniors Foundation registered.
| | | | | 2002/2003 | • 10 Junior and Senior High programs serving 122 seniors. | | | • 252 student volunteers. | | | • Winner of United Way of Calgary and Area's Spirits of Gold Award for collaborative community partnerships. | | | | | 2006/2007 | • Friends of Seniors Foundation is renamed LINKages. | | | • Mandate expanded to reach more youth and seniors in the community. | | | • LINKages operates in 13 schools with over 500 youth and seniors. |
