We had another exciting Valentine’s Day this year at LINKages! With the success of last year’s event, we decided to expand to another location and run two celebrations on the afternoon of February 14th.
Our two Scip interns from U of C did an amazing job collecting donations for the surprise gift bags that were delivered to each resident’s door. In total, over 160 gift bags were handed out that contained Valentine cards hand-written by students from schools around Calgary. The bags also contained numerous personal care items and some delicious frosted cookies!
At both locations of the event we had Valentine’s photo booths setup for the residents and youth volunteers to have their picture taken. Some of the seniors were reluctant at first because they had never used a photo booth, so it was neat to see the youth step in and show them how it’s done. Once they all realized how simple it was, everyone had a lot of fun with it! We also played a ‘Love Song Guessing Game’ that let the residents show their more competitive side… needless to say it was a hit and everyone came away with a prize.
We want to say one last BIG thank-you to everyone who helped out with the event. We could not have done it without the donors, volunteers, or interns. Thank-you Calgary!!
