Intergenerational friendly visiting and in-home support for older adults living independently in the community
LINKages IG Outreach Program matches older adults with young adult Outreach Visitors who offer companionship, social support, and light task help so older adults can maintain their independence and stay connected with their community. Outreach Visitors are young adults who have expressed interest in working with older adults, are carefully screened, and receive training and ongoing support.
Who We Serve
The program offers regular in-home visits to older adults who are:
- Ages 55 and over
- Residents of Calgary
- Living at home in the community (not in a private or subsidized independent, assisted living, or long-term care facility)
What We Offer
The program matches older adults with young adult outreach visitors (paid contractors) who offer the following activities and support:
- Friendly visiting
- Recreation activities (walks, crafts, puzzles, games, reading, etc.)
- Light household task support (max 30min/visit)
- Connections to community resources
Visits are typically once a week for 1.5-2 hours, with a flexible schedule based on your needs and availability
Please note: We do NOT provide assistance with activities of daily living (i.e., personal hygiene or medical needs), grocery shopping, or transportation
