Intergenerational Outreach – Older Adults

Intergenerational friendly visiting and in-home support for older adults living independently in the community

 

LINKages IG Outreach Program matches older adults with young adult Outreach Visitors who offer companionship, social support, and light task help so older adults can maintain their independence and stay connected with their community. Outreach Visitors are young adults who have expressed interest in working with older adults, are carefully screened, and receive training and ongoing support.

What We Offer

The program matches older adults with young adult outreach visitors (paid contractors) who offer the following activities and support:

  • Friendly visiting
  • Recreation activities (walks, crafts, puzzles, games, reading, etc.)
  • Light household task support (max 30min/visit)
  • Connections to community resources

Visits are typically once a week for 1.5-2 hours, with a flexible schedule based on your needs and availability

Please note: We do NOT provide assistance with activities of daily living (i.e., personal hygiene or medical needs), grocery shopping, or transportation

Fees

The IG Outreach Program uses a compassionate pricing approach to ensure our service is accessible to everyone. Our standard fee for service is $35/hour; however, we offer subsidized rates on a sliding scale based on income. Click here to view our sliding fee scale. 

All fees collected for the program go towards paying Outreach Visitors a living wage, program expenses, and creating a sustainable program that serves as many people as possible.

Application & Intake Process

1. Application

Fill out our application online or download a copy here and email it to amber.dukart@link-ages.ca.

You can also call our office at 403-249-0853 to fill out the application over the phone.

2. Interview

Each older adult is interviewed by the IG Outreach Coordinator at their place of residency. Information gathered during this interview will be used to find a match.

3. Matching Process

Older adults are matched with Outreach Visitors based on factors such as mutual interests, personalities, hobbies, geographic locations, etc.

4. First Visit

When meeting your Outreach Visitor for the first time, the IG Outreach Coordinator will attend and introduce you to your match. The Coordinator will discuss practical issues around the visits, answer any questions, and encourage you and the outreach visitor to set a schedule for future visits. Following the first visit, the Coordinator will follow up with you to ensure that the match has been successful and proceeding smoothly.
