I was recently struck by the cheerful, graceful and unbelievably joyous demeanor of President Jimmy Carter as he announced to the world that he has cancer on his brain and at one point thought that he had weeks to live. If you didn’t pay attention to his message, you might have guessed that he looked and behaved as if he had won the lottery! At 91 years old,, he is the still the model citizen who inspires; from his strident energetic moves to his uplifting, joyous and positively infectious spirit; he defines for many of us what it is like to age gracefully, meaningfully and embracingly. As Mark Twain once said, “Age is mind over matter. If you don’t mind it, it doesn’t matter.”
